Sarcotesta absent. Testa present; with markedly different marginal tissue; without fleshy or leathery layer over hard layer; tight; surface unsmooth; without crease or line separating cotyledons from hypocotyl-radicle; without notch along margin where cotyledons from hypocotyl-radicle tip approach each other; without glands; without bristles; glabrous; with wing(s); 1-winged ("perianth" wing); with wing encompassing seed; without collar; without operculum; colored; monochrome; membranous, or coriaceous, or fleshy; not becoming mucilaginous when wetted; surrounding food reserve.
Embryo differentiated from food reserve; well developed; 1 per seed; partially filling testa (with food reserve); chamber central to wings; 0.7 times the length of food reserve; at one end of seed not extending into a depression or cup; apical, or axile and centric; linear; straight (more or less); parallel to seed length; embedded in endosperm; with cotyledons gradually connected to hypocotyl-radicle; without coleorhiza; without simmondsin; without stomata; not green; with 2 or more cotyledons. Cotyledons equal in size; not punctate dotted.

Old World. Southwestern & Angola Africa.
Notes
Kubitzi in Kramer & Green: "Seed enclosed in the membranous winged 'perianth". Seed dispered with 'perianth' as a wing. Two median bracts form the seed wing. Seed is enclosed in membranous winged "perianth". Airy Shaw: Compound cones of perianth-leaves, and seed with endosperm and perisperm.
