Nomenclature. Family: CUPRESSACEAE. Synonym(s): Callitris whytei, Widdringtonia nodiflora var. whytei. Further trade and local names: mulanje cypress (GB); nkungudza, mlanje cedar (MW). Code according to DIN EN 13556: none.

Geographic distribution. Southern Africa. Endemic to Malawi.
Growth rings, colour, grain, etc. Growth ring boundaries distinct, or indistinct or absent; transition from earlywood to latewood gradual. As a rule demarcated by a very narrow, darker latewood band. Heartwood basically brown, yellow (yellowish to pale brown). Sapwood distinct from heartwood colour. Odour distinct (spicy aromatic). Wood of medium weight (0.50–0.60 g/cm2). Interlocked grain absent.
Hardwood vs softwood. Vessels (pores) absent (= softwood).
Rays. Rays narrow. Large rays commonly less than 1 mm high.
Resin canals. Normal resin canals absent.
