Habit and juveniles. Erect. Non-rhizomatous perennial shrub. 1–4 m high. Juvenile branchlets with 0 prickles per dm. Juvenile leaves ovate, or broadly ovate; deeply lobed throughout; with 2–5 pairs of lobes; lamina 15–40 cm long; lamina 10–20 cm wide; with 0 prickles on upper surface.
Branchlets. Adult stems prickles absent. Adult branchlets terete, or ridged; brown, or green. Adult branchlets prickles absent. Adult branchlets hairs absent. Adult branchlets stellae absent.
Leaves. Adult leaves linear, or narrow lanceolate; entire; lamina 5–12 cm long; lamina 0.5–1.2 cm wide; lamina 8–14 times longer than broad; apex acute, or acuminate; base cuneate or attenuate. Adult leaves petioles 0–2 cm long; not winged, or winged; prickles absent.
Upper leaf surface. Upper leaf surface green; prickles absent; stellate hairs absent; protostellae absent; stellate hair density absent from surface. Upper leaf surface simple hairs absent. Upper leaf surface Type 2 hairs absent.

Inflorescence. Inflorescence leaf-opposed; cymose (pseudo-racemose), or branched (paniculate to corymbose); common peduncle absent; rachis prickles absent; 5–20-flowered; with all flowers bisexual. Flowers 5-merous. Pedicels at anthesis 15–34 mm long; prickles absent. Calyx tube at anthesis 2–3 mm long. Calyx lobes at anthesis hemispherical, or deltate. Calyx prickles at anthesis absent. Calyx stellae absent. Calyx simple hairs absent. Calyx Type 2 hairs absent. Corolla purple; 13–22 mm long; rotate; inner surface glabrous. Anthers 3 mm long. Ovary glabrous. Functional style 7–8 mm long; erect; glabrous.
Fruits. Fruiting calyx lobes less than half length of mature fruit; prickles absent. Mature fruits 5–20 per inflorescence; globular; 15–20 mm diameter; brown, or yellow. Seeds white, or pale yellow; 2–2.5 mm long. Stone-cell granules present.
Distribution and habitat. Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria. Darling Downs. North Coast (NC), Central Coast (CC), Northern Tablelands (NT), Central Tablelands (CT), Southern Tablelands (ST), North-western slopes (NWS), Central western slopes (CWS), South western slopes (SWS), North western Plains (NWP). Shrubby eucalypt woodland, remote from rainforest.
